The Saison style originated in the southern grain-growing area of Belgium. Farmers of the region seeked a lighter, more refreshing brew to drink during the sweltering summer months as a replacement for the heavier beers they were used to drinking. They turned to Saisons, which used a unique strain of yeast to produce a beer low in alcohol, perfect to sip under the hot sun. Over time, the Saison style began to lose popularity in a market of darker, stronger beers. Brewery Dupont was ready to retire their Saison style in the 1980’s, but increased interest when it was released in America kept Saison Dupont Vieille Provision in production. Now, Saison Dupont Vieille Provision is considered the flagship of the Saison style and is the most admired and imitated beer in the world.
Full-bodied and malty, Saison Dupont Vieille Provision is beloved for its distinct peppery bite and unique flavor derived from Dupont’s signature strain of yeast. The beer pours with a beautiful straw color and has strong aromas of fresh raised bread, citrus and spice. It sparkles on the palate and pairs perfectly with almost any kind of food, from cheese and charcuterie to pizza and spicy Asian dishes.
