We get a lot of press given our size. We hope a summary of stories we particularly enjoyed will help you draw folks to your events when you cite the stories about our beers in your own PR.
NPR – Weekend Edition’s Scott Simon interviews the Wine Library’s Graham Haverfield about best three beers of summer. Posca Rustica “is a very cool beer, like a history lesson in a bottle”.
P.S. It was Scott Simon’s favorite of the bunch. 4.5 million people heard the broadcast. You might also want to see a video by Mike Roper of Hopleaf on Steve Dolinsky’s site here.
Jim Galligan’s assertion that at $45 per bottle Scaldis Prestige is a bargain – it would cost $150 for a bottle of wine of this complexity – adds Wine Library’s Graham Haverfield – jammed our inbox with more requests to purchase than any story in recent memory. The beer arrives in October. Consider pouring small snifters (4 oz?) at our Coast to Coast Toast celebration to let people try this amazing beer.
Dan Fromson is excited about all the creativity that has been unleashed in the brewing world within the Saison style. Truth is the Saison was brought to the US by Vanberg & DeWulf – yes, Saison Dupont was the first – at the urging of Michael Jackson. Don and Wendy also brewed the first domestic saison when they owned Ommegang.
Saveur editor Betsy Andrews observes that the Belgian brewing scene is the most exciting it has been in 50 years. One of the brightest lights? The brave and very dynamic 25 year-old founder of one of Belgium’s newest breweries & most critically acclaimed beers; Vicaris Tripel Geuze, Anne-Catherine Dilewyns. She’s someone doubly worth celebrating for Ladies’ Night Versions of the Coast to Coast Toast that are popping up all over the country. Wendy led Betsy on a whirlwind tour of breweries.
This article was first created for the Philly market. Top beer writer Lew Bryson wrote it to reflect on Don Feinberg and Wendy Littlefield’s careers in beer. It explains the genesis of the Coast to Coast Toast too. Vanberg & DeWulf was the first importer to specialize in Belgian beer and brought the category to the United States.
Francis and Mark’s are restaurant pros. Stage left is Zagat’s #1 rated restaurant in New Jersey. Their lively program has been dubbed “car talk for foodies”. In this episode they interview their old friends Don & Wendy about the importance of Belgian and vintage beers to fine dining restaurant lists. You are going to be really happy we told you about this program!
Check out the interview Jimmy Carbone did with Don & Wendy on the eve of the inaugural C2CT. Jimmy was a host as well at the rightfully famous Jimmy’s 43. Beer Sessions Radio should be on the playlist of every beer lover.
The Chicago Tribune’s Josh Noel named Diversey & Lille the beer of the month. The Chicagoist & Time Out also gave France’s first ever craft beer collaboration a shout out. No doubt the partnership Vanberg & DeWulf “midwifed” between Brasserie Castelain and Two Brothers had a little something to do with this. The allotment of bottles is entirely sold out but we do have about 55 kegs left. Super special addition to a Coast to Coast Toast party. Grab one while you can. The style is dry hopped Biere de Garde. Do you know why it is named Diversey & Lille? Read the blog and see the photos for an explanation.
Speaking of collaborations – Tom Peters asked us to work with Olivier DeDeycker – brewer at Dupont – to make Special Belge as the featured beer for Philly Beer Week. We were delighted to oblige. The collaborator in this case was Iron Hill the much loved Mid Atlantic brewing team. Philadelphia Inquirer travel and food editor, Craig Laban did a masterful job describing the visit of the Philly delegation to Tourpes and the first collaboration beer from Dupont in its 166 year history. Check out his story here.
Time Magazine’s Anne Becerra correctly identified Saison Dupont as one of the eight beers you’d be drinking this summer. Keep in mind the New York Times identified it as the ideal beer to pair with Thanksgiving Turkey. Can we just add that Magnums of Bons Voeux are headed this way for the holidays… Foret earned a platinum in the World Beer Championships. The California Celebrator names it one of the top 50 beers of the past ten years. And it is ORGANIC. In all we bring in 14 toothsome beers from Dupont.
